What is promotional merchandising in its basic form?

 

Merchandising, as commonly used in Marketing also means the promotion of merchandise sales, as by coordinating production, marketing and developing advertising, display, and sales strategies to increase retail sales. This includes disciplines in pricing and discounting, physical presentation of products and displays, and the decisions about which products should be presented to which customers at what time.

 

When deciding on which merchandise items you should be considering for your business, campaign or event think about the following;

 

  • What is your goal/objective
  • Who are your customers
  • What are their likes/dislikes
  • How will the item be dispensed
  • What message are your trying to convey
  • Will the item be given away or resold
  • What is your budget

 

A promotional item should ideally be memorable and useful. Because you want the receiver or purchaser to keep using it or associate a message or theme with it.

 

Branding items with your companies logo and slogan helps to reinforce you as a supplier in their minds and associate you with something useful or interesting.
